Twelve songs will compete for representing Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, which is taking place this spring in Vienna, Austria, following Conchita Wurst's victory last year.

RÚV, The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, is hosting three shows to choose which song will be Iceland's contribution in Vienna.

Six acts will perform each night: January 31st and February 7th, with six songs proceeding, plus one chosen by a panel of experts, for the third night on February 14th when the winner will be selected.

Most of the performers are local pop stars but some will be stepping into the limelight for the first time.

The glittering Eurovision Song Contest, with its over the top stage outfits and make-ups, enjoys a fervent cult following. Some say they only watch it for the joke (which is actually a rather good reason) but the fact is that last year up to 125 million TV viewers tuned in for Eurovision’s grand final in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The contest in Vienna is on the 19, 21 and 23rd of May, but you will be able to listen to the twelve Icelandic songs on the radio from January 26th.
