Tomorrow, Thursday 21 April, is the First Day of Summer, a unique Icelandic public holiday that takes place on the first Thursday after April 18th.

The tradition of the First Day of Summer is based on the Old Norse calendar that divided the year into only two seasons, winter and summer. Icelanders continue to celebrate the ‘first day of summer’ with family festivities and parades.
