Three male Mandarin ducks spotted in Iceland

Three male Mandarin ducks were spotted in north and east Iceland last week; One in Borgarfjörður eystri in East Iceland, and two in Eyjafjörður fjord in North Iceland.

The Mandarin duck is a perching duck species typically found in East Asia but over the past few years a number of these ducks have found their way to Iceland from Britain, where a large feral Mandarin population was established in the 20th century.

The adult male Mandarin is a striking bird, with a red bill, large white crescent above the eye and a reddish face and "whiskers".
