Herðubreið mountain is often referred to as the "queen of Icelandic mountains". The regal view of the mountain, which dominates the horizon in large parts of the Central Highlands north of Vatnajökull glacier, has ensured the mountain a place in the imagination of all Icelanders as well as any visitor to the Central Highlands.

A video shot by Tómas Guðbjartsson, one of Iceland's best known hikers and landscape video producers, captures the full beauty of this magnificient site. Tómas shot the video during a hike by a group of 37 members of the Icelandic Touring Association at the end of July. This is the 21st time Tómas hikes to the summit of Herðubreið where a small frozen crater lake provides what he claims is the most beautiful campsite in all of Iceland.
