Strongmen, beauty queens, pop stars and artists: The most googled Icelanders in 2016

According to a study by the local marketing firm H:N Markaðssamskipti the ten Icelanders who were googled most often in 2016 include star athletes, strongmen, beauty queens, pop-stars and artists. The most googled Icelander in 2016, as in 2015 was the strongman Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, better known as "The Mountain", after the character he plays in the Game of Thrones. Hafþór has been googled 1.6 million times in 2016.

The next few spots are occupied by pop-stars: The Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men is in second place, with 1.5 million searches, followed by Kaleo, with 1.4 million searches and Björk with 700,000 searches. The painter Erró came in fifth, having been googled 400,000 times.

The next four spots are occupied by star-athletes: Gunnar Nelson, the MMA champion was googled 300,000, while the footballer Gylfi Sigurðsson and the Crossfit champion Sara Sigmundsdóttir occupied the seventh to eight place with 200,000 searches.  sitja saman í sjöunda og áttunda sæti listans. The footballer Ragnar Sigurðsson came in ninth with just about 150,000 searches.

Finally: Miss Iceland, The beauty queen Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir, makes the tenth spot. Arna Ýr became world famous when she quit the beauty contest Miss Grand International after the organizers told her she had "too much fat".
