The 2014-15 Holuhraun eruption produced more sulfuric dioxide than any eruption since 1978
The Ring Road east of the town of Selfoss, at the farm Bitra has been closed due to a serious road accident early this morning. Travellers are being re-routed around the accident. People are asked to slow down and show caution.
According to the Police in South Iceland all available first responders were dispatched to the site of the accident which is considered very serious. More than one person suffered injuries. No further information is available about the accident at this point. Police expects the road to remain closed for some time.
Some delays can be expected due to the accident.
Traffic is being diverted to Villingaholtsvegur road (305) and Urriðafossvegur road (302).
