Old recordings of balads and folklore kept safe at Árnastofnun

The Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies stores countless of old sound recordings of oral narratives.

According to the National Broadcasting Service the institute’s collection includes ballads and folk songs, along with folktales and descriptions of folk customs, the oldest of which date back to 1900.

The recordings are accessible online on ismus.is.
