When the owner of the Miss Grand International told Miss Iceland, Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir, she needed to lose weight before taking to the stage in the final of the beauty pageant in Las Vegas, she did the right thing and quit.

Arna Ýr is a former member of the Icelandic national athletics team and is in excellent physical shape. She had been named in the top 10 of the competition, due to take place in Las Vegas on Tuesday, when she was told that she was too fat and she was not having it.

"I decided to stand by myself and women in general," she said on her Facebook page and added, "I'm not going to have enyone telling me that I am to fat to look good on stage."

Arna checked out of the competition and the hotel which was hosting the event, and left this message to the owner of the beauty pageant: "If you are going to hold an international beauty pageant you at least have to be able to see the international beauty."

And the she added "The heels have now been retired."

Way to go girl!
