The Icelandic Independence Day celebrations in Reykjavík will take place all over the city centre between 10am and 10pm.

Among the many events and happenings taking place during the day are activities for the whole family in Hljómskálagarður park between 1pm and 5pm and entertainment for children at Arnarhóll hill from 1.30 pm (including a visit from Pippi Longstocking, Lazytown and numerous music acts).

A programme celebrating the centennial anniversary of women‘s right to vote begins at City Hall at 1.30pm and an old fashioned accordion dance takes place in the building at 8pm.

For the avid singers there’s an open mike and live karaoke event at Austurvöllur park (by the parliament building) at 5.40pm.

The highlight of the day is without a doubt the annual Independence Day concert taking place at Arnarhóll hill at 5pm. Ellen Kristjánsdóttir, reggae band Amabadama, Þórunn Antonía and Belatrix (also known as Kolrassa krókríðandi) are among those who will take the stage this year.
