The Institute of Economics and Peace has professed Iceland the most peaceful country for the seventh year running. The criterion for winning this distinct honor includes a low murder rate, minimal violent crimes as well as marginal weapon and firearm incidents.

Iceland has succeeded in achieving one of the lowest murder rates per 100,000 citizens and a very small portion of the nation’s population is imprisoned. Additionally, access to illegal weapons is controlled quite effectively by the Icelandic government’s firearm policy.

Second on the list of peaceful countries was Iceland’s Nordic cousins, Denmark. Bottom on the list of 162 countries was Syria due to their ongoing civil war that has cost over 100,000 people their lives.
