Iceland is among countries with the highest life expectancy rate, according to the World Economic Forum (WEF)'s newly-released Global Competitiveness Survey.

The average life expectancy in Iceland is 82.9 years, 81.8 years for males and 84.5 for females, landing Iceland in joint third place with Italy. This might not come as a surprise as Channel 4’s documentary, The World’s Best Diet, recently revealed that the Icelandic diet, made up of fresh fish, high-quality meat and dairy products, is among the healthiest in the world, closely followed by that of Italy and Greece.

According to the Global Competitiveness Survey, life expectancy is highest in Hong Kong, 83.5 years, and second highest in Japan, 83.1 years.
