British Airways has announced that it will be offering direct flights between London City Airport and Keflavík International Airport, beginning next fall. The airline already offers two flights daily between Keflavík and Heathrow Airport on the outskirts of London.

British Airways will be offering the flights on Thursdays and Sundays, beginning in October, making them perfect for travellers who would like to take an extended weekend holiday in Iceland to see the Northern Lights.

London City Airport is located on the banks of the Thames 11 km (7 mi) east of the City of London. The airport is used by smaller aircraft than the major international airports of London, Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton. British Airways will therefore be serving the route with Embraer E190 narrow-body jet aircraft which carry 98 passengers.

The local news site Túristi reports that with this latest addition the total number of weekly flights between Keflavík and London in February 2018 is now up to 82, up from just 19 in February 2012.
