A new cupcake shop named 17 Sortir (17 Sorts) opened in Grandagarður last weekend. The shop is the latest addition to the ever-growing number of speciality shops opening in the Grandi harbour area, which has evolved into a fantastic conglomeration of restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, museums and IT businesses, as well as fishing boats and old, baiting huts.

Looking good!

According to owner Auður Ögn Árnadóttir, the shop offers a rotating selection of 17 decadent cakes each day. Each cake, she says, will taste and look homemade. The shop also offers vegan, gluten-free, and sugar-free cupcakes.

The shop has been jam-packed since it opened; the tantalising aroma of freshly baked cupcakes filling the premises only adds to 17 Sortir’s attraction. The most popular cupcake on the store’s opening day was one with salted liquorish and Turkish pepper.

“We have 130 recipes to pick from daily, and we’ll continue to add to the list,” Auður Ögn told Morgunblaðið
