When Helga Þorbergsdóttir and Sigurgeir Már Jensson returned home to Vík in Mýrdalur after a pleasant stay in Denmark, they were more than surprised to find a tent and two sleeping travellers in their back garden. The tent and its occupants had disappeared the next morning.

Helga tells news website Vísir that she thought the campers might be someone they knew, but found that was not the case after taking a quick peek into the tent.

“Undoubtedly they had meant to ask permission, but we weren’t home. Although, we probably would not have allowed them to set up camp outside our living room window had we been home,” Sigurgeir says.

The small village of Vík has seen its fair share of foreign travellers in the past years due to its close proximity to the black sands of Reynisfjara beach, Dyrhólaey peninsula and Mýdalsjökull glacier.
