Icelanders celebrate Bolludagur, Sprengidagur and Öskudagur at the beginning of next week: Three days of over-indulging and innocent fun! Here’s a little summary on the Icelandic traditions surrounding these days.

On Bolludagur, which takes place on Monday, Icelanders will consume a whopping one million cream buns.

Bolludagur is followed by Sprengidagur, the Icelandic equivalence of Mardi Gras.

Lastly, we have Öskudagur, or Ash Wednesday. The Icelandic tradition surrounding this day is somewhat romantic.
