Edvard Júlíusson, board member of the Blue Lagoon, and Ragnheiður Elín Árnadóttir, Minister of Industry and Innovation, removed the first lava rock for a new 60-room luxury hotel project near the lagoon, reports Mbl.is.

The ceremony, held yesterday,  marks the launch of the construction of a new 10.000 square metre (107639 square feet) hotel and leisure centre, built into the lava surrounding the Blue Lagoon. The project is expected to be completed in two years time and cost around 6 billion krónur (38.907.982 euros/48.123.195 US dollars).
