Music festival
Gæran Music Festival takes place in Sauðárkrókur this weekend. The main stage is located in the warehouse of Loðskinn, a local tannery factory.
The line-up this year is rather impressive and includes electronic artist Úlfur Úlfur, hip hop group Reykjavíkurdætur, Sóldögg, Klassart and Kiriyama Family to name only a few. Tickets can be purchased on site.

Go the distance
The Jökulsárhlaup is a long-distance running event held in North Iceland. Jökulsárhlaup literally means “glacial river outburst” but the word “hlaup” also means run in Icelandic. The event takes place tomorrow, Saturday August 9th.
The course begins at Dettifoss waterfall and the finish point is in Ásbyrgi. Registration has been closed but people are welcome to watch and cheer on the runners. The run begins at 11 am.

Stuffed birds and polar bears
The Museum of Natural History in Ólafsfjörður, North Iceland, is well worth a visit. The museum boasts of a great collection of specimens and artifacts and includes a collection of eggs, stuffed birds, an imitation of a fox‘s lair and a stuffed polar bear.
The museum is open from June 1st until August 31st between 2 pm and 5 pm. Closed on Mondays.

Visit Akureyri
“Akureyri town is full of wonderful cafés and bars. There’s a lovely new café located in the Botanic Garden and there are many more in the city centre.”
Recommended by Sigurður Karl Jóhannsson, owner of restaurants Strikið and Bryggjan

Spot the seal
“Take a walk along the beach front, either just north of Húsavík or west of Lónsós. From here you might get lucky and catch a glimpse of curious seals bobbing around in the sea.”
Recommended by Guðríður Baldvinsdóttir who lives on the farm Lón, North Iceland.
